We Are Youth!

Our youth ministries are made up of junior and high school students who are eager to serve and grow together. It is our attempt not to fit the students in our programs but develop a ministry that meets each student’s needs. In order to meet the needs of our youth, it is important that we become their place of belonging by instilling in them a sense of unity with love, acceptance, and forgiveness.

Leadership

Pastor Ben Poli

Pastor Ben Poli

Our Pastor, Sunday School Teacher, & Friday Night Leader

After serving at two Christian International schools as a teacher and principal for almost ten years in Indonesia, Pastor Ben was called to become a youth pastor. He has been faithfully serving at FECSGV youth ministry since 2006 along with his wife, En as Children’s ministry director. They have been blessed with two grown-up children and one son-in-law. Pastor Ben is currently completing his doctoral program in Intercultural Studies at Biola University. Teaching young people about loving God and putting faith in action as well as ministering to parents in equipping their teens for the Lord are always his passion. His favorite verse is "Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus." (Philippians 4:6-7) It’s a calling and a privilege to serve God. We desire to raise up a Godly generation of world changers and leaders. Would you join in hand together to make a great impact for His Glory?

Anni Wong

Anni Wong

Sunday School Teacher & Friday Night Leader

Anni is married to her husband Ken Wong for 26 years.  Anni and her husband were blessed with 3 boys:  Jeremy ( 21), Gabriel (20), and Micah(18).   She enjoys watching all types of sports but enjoys playing volleyball the most. She works as a family nurse practitioner at Kaiser. She received Christ as her personal Lord and Savior in Junior High.  Anni feels that God has a place for her in this season at Youth Ministry to influence them to build foundations in Christ that will last a lifetime.  Her favorite verse is "We demolish arguments and every pretension that sets itself up against the knowledge of God, and we take captive every thought to make it obedient to Christ." (2 Corinthians 10:5).

Vicky Sun

Vicky Sun

Sunday School Teacher

Vicky been teaching Sunday School (9th/10th graders) for over 2 years now. Vicky grew up in FECSGV and attended the CIA youth group, during which she participated in a short term mission trip to Panama and served as a small group leader. Currently, she is a member of Connections. When not reading or watching science fiction, she enjoys being outdoors.  Her favorite verse is "Don’t let anyone look down on you because you are young, but set an example for the believers in speech, in conduct, in love, in faith, and in purity." (1 Timothy 4:12 NIV)

Glenn Duh

Dr. Glenn Duh

Sunday School Teacher & Friday Night Leader

The most embarrassing thing that happened to Glenn in high school is that the only reason that he had a date back in high school was that a girl asked him out.  Anyways… Several friends at his high school band and orchestra invited him to church, and he started to visit FEC Glendale during his junior year. His Sunday school teachers were both medical students, one attending USC and the other attending UCLA. He confessed his faith in Jesus in July 1983, after his junior year in high school, at a church retreat.  He came to FECSGV around 1987, only a few months after the church first started. Glenn participated immediately as a youth group leader, and Auntie Virginia was one of the high school "kids" in the youth group. Yeah, Ronald Reagan was STILL President at that time, and this kid named Bob Shih just came from Taiwan. Glenn participated in youth ministry for a few years before the demands of marriage, family, and work made the time commitment difficult. Glenn has returned about a decade ago to teach Sunday school. He doesn’t remember what year it was, except that Pastor Ben's son, Aaron Poli, was in 8th grade that year.  He is a pediatric gastroenterologist, working at Kaiser in Downey. He deals with all things digestive and nutritive in youngsters and spends a lot of time on kids with stomachaches who don't want to go to school.  His favorite verses are Philippians 4:4-7, James1:2-3, Proverbs 24:16, and Romans 8 (Yes, the entire chapter)!

Virginia Cheng

Sunday School Teacher

Virginia Cheng has been attending FEC churches since she was still growing in my mother's womb.  She accepted Jesus as her Savior when she was 6 years old.  Virg is a founding member of FECSGV's youth group known as CIA.  When she was in college, she served as a youth group leader in the CIA. Schools that she has attended include San Gabriel Christian School, Temple City High School, UCLA, and Duke University.  Virg played on the tennis and basketball teams in high school.  One of her favorite memories in college is scoring two 3-pointers during an intramural basketball game in Pauley Pavilion at UCLA against a team of sorority girls who all seemed like they were over 6 feet tall.  She enjoys worshipping the Lord through singing and playing musical instruments, including guitar, bass guitar, piano, and drums.  She would love to learn to play more instruments but there is just not enough time during the day!  She is currently working as a pediatric physical therapist at Adventist Health Glendale Play to Learn Center, and Virg loves her job!  Her favorite verse is Romans 15:13 (ESV): "May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in believing, so that by the power of the Holy Spirit you may abound in hope".

Jason Lui

Jason Lui

Friday Night Leader

Jason Lui has been serving at FECSGV Youth as a leader for over 7 years. Jason grew up in FECSGV and attended the CIA youth group. He recently came back from Florida, during which he started an InterVarsity Chapter in the Disney College Program. Currently, he is a member of Connections. When not working as a Financial Case Manager, he loves to read and watch science fiction books and dramas, more specifically time-travel K-dramas. His favorite verses are John 4:20-21: If someone says, I love God, and hates his brother, he is a liar; for the one who does not love his brother whom he has seen, cannot love God whom he has not seen. And this commandment we have from Him, that the one who loves God should love his brother also.

Our Goal

Our goals are to see our youth keep the claims and promises of God's word into their daily lives, to see them want to live out the difference between the secular and the spiritual by allowing their actions to reflect their relationship with the Lord Jesus Christ, and to see the talents and spiritual gifts that God has given each youth member be used in creative ways through missions, youth camps, monthly events, weekly services, and leadership development.

About Us: Our Mission

Our Core Values

  1. We believe in the supremacy of dynamic and Spirit-led worship that brings glory to God, blessings to His people, and expansion of His Kingdom.

  2. We believe in Spirit-empowered, relevant and accurate preaching and teaching of the whole counsel of God that counters worldly values and transforms the whole person to become a disciple of Jesus.

  3. We believe fervent and unceasing prayer should under-gird all our ministries and personal life.

  4. We believe in one unified church of multi-cultural and multi-congregational ministries served by an inter-dependent, collaborating, continuously growing, and holy pastoral and lay leadership team.

  5. We believe the church's mission is to participate in the mission of God, which is to save the lost, to disciple the nations, to feed the hungry, to clothe the naked and to bring liberty to those who are oppressed.

  6. We believe in building and strengthening families that embody biblical values through integrated activities.

  7. We believe in nurturing our children and youth to become a godly generation by investing our precious resources and providing quality programs.

  8. We believe small groups as an important foundation for fellowship, spiritual transformation, leadership development and outreach.

  9. We believe in the priesthood of all believers in exercising all their spiritual gifts and dedicating financial and other resources for building up the Body of Christ and fulfilling God's mission.
